A VERY DIFFERENT SEASON 2020
My first newsletter in 2020 started like this:
“2020 will be an exciting year for which I have high expectations!”
At this time, I was training at Las Playitas on Fuerteventura. I said goodbye to 2019 with 201.9 km of cycling and welcomed the new year with a 20.20 km run. The training went well, and my racing calendar took shape.
I was looking forward to the season and to represent my partners at these events:
10.05. Olympic distance Buschhuetten, opening of German tri season
22.05. Moonlight run Wesel
31.05. IRONMAN Brazil
21.06. Half distance indeland triathlon
28.06. IRONMAN Frankfurt
19.07. Half distance Nordhausen, German Championships
02.08. Half distance Frankfurt City Triathlon
23.08. Ironman 70.3 Duisburg
I had booked flights and accommodation for the Challenge half distance in
Salou and IRONMAN Brasil. And then everything changed.
In March I did not fly from Fuerteventura to Salou for the race. Instead I flew from Spain back home
to Germany. From one lock down into another, but a smoother one.
In March, we learnt that what was unimaginable yesterday would become reality tomorrow. In April it was clear, that it would not be a normal triathlon year. However, I was not yet aware of the full extent and duration of the pandemic. Even now we are still in the middle of it and the pandemic will still immensely influence all of us for quite some time.
It was not always easy to maintain the motivation for the daily training. But there were more sunny than rainy days. I kept fit and planned on sight. I took advantage of the racing opportunities that were opening up for me. After all, I have been able to compete in 5 triathlons this year and have finished 5 races as the winner.
01/2020 1. Club ChampionshipTV Voerde, 1000 m swim

07/2020 1. Leipziger Triathlon, Olympic Distance
08/2020 1. Knappenman, half distance
09/2020 8. Ironman 70.3 Tallinn
I think that is not a bad result in a year of a pandemic. Some impressions for you:
The European autumn is coming in big steps and I use the offseason to cure my hamstring issues that prevented a better result in Tallinn.
I am proud that I have great partners that are supporting me in this special season.
Thank you that I can distrely on you!
